Antifragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb (Book Recommendation)

If The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham is the first completed book for 2013. This one is the first for 2014. Antifragile: Things that gain from disorder by Nassim Nicholas Taleb is truly a thought provoking book. Ever since I read The Black Swan, I believed that the extremistan truly ruled the world. This book exposed 3 sets of personality, the fragile, that breaks and fall upon encountering black swans. The robust that demonstrates resiliency when faced with black swans. And the antifragile that gains from black swans. The journey with the book revealed the pitfalls of large economies and corporations and the recommendations how to be antifragile. Few of my favorites includes the barbell strategy and the skin to the game concepts. Embrace uncertainty, randomness and error... It may just change our lives.

Who Introduced Stock Market Investing to Most Filipinos?

I posted a survey question 4 years ago about influencers of people to invest in the stock market and these are the results based on the responses. Bro. Bo Sanchez Out of the respondents, 20% answered famous personalities like Bro Bo Sanchez. Bro Bo, with his book “My Maid Invests in the Stock Market” and his group Truly Rich Club apparently influenced a lot of people in this previously perceived rich man’s endeavour. The idea of linking religion with the heavenly side of money and investment seems to be a good formula. Another name of financial guru came out with Bro Bo and this is Mr. Francisco Colayco who advocates financial literacy thru Colayco Foundation. Warren Buffett also is in the list of personalities mentioned since he became rich thru stock market investments. ANC On the Money Runners up on the list are influencers within the workplace and colleagues, 11% of respondents were led by their friends in the office who are already earning in th...

Business Adventures by John Brooks (Book Recommendation)

"Business Adventures" by John Brooks is like a fiction touch in a non fiction book. It is jam packed with facts and lessons from great stories that probably shaped business histories. Each story presented in such a way that can put you at the edge of your seat.

Coconut in a Not So Giant Nut - My First PSEAsy IPO

"niyog"   by  foCusRinG  is licensed under  CC BY-SA 2.0  It was my first time using the platform of PSE for LSI or local small investors, PSE EASy, which stands for Philippine Stock Exchange Electronic Allocation system.  For those who want to know more about IPO or Initial Public Offering in Philippines setup, I’ve written previous articles about it so you can check it out but it is based on old system of LSI wherein you need to manually fill up forms and maximum subscription per individual is 25K Pesos. The first IPO that was offered using PSEASy is KPPI, Kepwealth Property Philippines, Inc. A property leasing and investment company primarily based in Cebu. Unfortunately, I don’t have funds to try the platform for the first time but I already registered and linked by broker to my PSEASy. KPPI had a good listing day followed by another sets of ceilings.  For the second IPO of the year, I was able to subscribe and w...
