I posted a survey question 4 years ago about influencers of people to invest in the stock market and these are the results based on the responses.
Bro. Bo Sanchez
Out of the respondents, 20% answered famous personalities like Bro Bo Sanchez. Bro Bo, with his book “My Maid Invests in the Stock Market” and his group Truly Rich Club apparently influenced a lot of people in this previously perceived rich man’s endeavour. The idea of linking religion with the heavenly side of money and investment seems to be a good formula. Another name of financial guru came out with Bro Bo and this is Mr. Francisco Colayco who advocates financial literacy thru Colayco Foundation. Warren Buffett also is in the list of personalities mentioned since he became rich thru stock market investments.
ANC On the Money
Runners up on the list are influencers within the workplace and colleagues, 11% of respondents were led by their friends in the office who are already earning in the stock market. We as individuals who experienced ecstasy of stock appreciation and the joy of receiving dividends first hand would be able to share and inspire others as well. Tied on 2nd place are TV shows like ANC On the Money. Evidently, learning through visual presentation still play a major role in education like TV series and Teleseryes. TV programs like ANC On The Money, Pesos and Sense are good avenue to present financial literacy ideas.
Parents and Family Members
Parents and Family Members, Friends in Facebook, and School came tied in 3rd place. The idea of parents and school contributing to growth of people in the stock market and financial literacy are good signs of our future. Home is the primary stage of education while school is next. In the case of facebook and social networking in general, we can learn a lot but there should be some filtering as some information needed processing and nurturing before it can be beneficial.
The Intelligent Investor
by Benjamin Graham
Books came in 4th place with authors like Benjamin Graham and Bo Sanchez. With their experiences and studies, they were able to influence readers who look for value, process, inspiration and critical thinking. 7% of respondents claimed they invest in stock market attracted by these authors.
Facebook Groups
4% of respondents claimed to be influenced by Facebook groups like TGFI and seminars like those conducted by TGFI Singapore’s Richard Macalintal. The concept of conducting seminars related to stock market and investing in general is growing but as a precaution like mentioned for social networking sites and the internet. We should know the purpose, background, and their vision.
Other influencers are insurance companies, low bank interest rates, bragging rights, and pure curiosity.
Thanks to these influencers we are now part of statistics of those invested in the stock market.
